Arlington Remodel
1650 sq. ft. | In Construction
Originally built in 1938, this Cape-style home was reimagined to balance modern living with the character of its original design. The renovation aimed to bring new life to the structure, enhancing its livability while maintaining the charm and proportions of the original house. Key priorities included maximizing natural light, improving the circulation of the ground floor, and reworking the second floor to better serve the needs of this client.
The exterior transformation introduces a strong horizontal expression, anchored by a deep overhang that defines the main entry and extends along the side elevation to form a second-story deck. This architectural gesture creates a welcoming covered entry, but also provides outdoor living space connected to the upper level.
New shed dormers, detailed with standing seam metal roofs, replace the original roofline and flood the once-cramped second floor with daylight. Inside, the reconfigured second floor now accommodates three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a generous walk-in closet, creating a functional and light-filled upper level. On the ground floor, circulation has been improved with a clear and open flow between living spaces.
Throughout the project, material choices and detailing reinforce the home's original character while introducing a clean, contemporary sensibility.
