Canton Ranch Reimagined
1,400 sq. ft. | In Progress
Originally built as a single-story mid-century ranch, this Canton, MA home was redesigned through a first-floor renovation and second-story addition to better serve the needs of a young family. The project reconfigures the main level to improve circulation, while the new upper level adds essential bedroom space without overwhelming the original structure.
On the main level, the interior was reorganized to include two bedrooms—one with a new ensuite bathroom—along with a widened kitchen featuring an island and full-height cabinetry. A dedicated office and added storage are integrated along the central hallway, while a new stair and double-height entry bring light and openness to the heart of the home.
The new second story introduces a primary suite, two additional bedrooms connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom, a second-floor laundry area, and expanded closet space. The addition is shaped to follow the original roofline, stepping forward at the entry and pulling back where the site slopes away—maintaining the home’s modest scale while enhancing its presence.
Exterior updates feature darker finishes on windows, trim, and deep overhangs, giving the home a refreshed and cohesive appearance. Throughout the design, materials and forms build on the spirit of the original mid-century architecture, while adapting it for contemporary family living.
